An emerging discipline in medicine where the focus is on 6 pillars. We use these pillars and the patient holistically with the current evidence base to see if we can PREVENT, REVERSE OR TREAT chronic related conditions

Chronic health conditions include

  1. type 2 diabetes

  2. Obesity

  3. High blood pressure

  4. High cholesterol

  5. Joint pains

  6. Hormone dysfunction

  7. Chronic pain

The 6 pillars of lifestyle medicine include

  1. Exercise

  2. Nutrition

  3. Toxic substances (avoiding them)

  4. Sleep

  5. Mental wellness

  6. Positive psychology

Chronic health conditions are not always physical and mental health conditions are also covered in this remit such as anxiety and depression.

Chronic conditions vary but the majority are seen in primary care and 80% of deaths are related to 3 of the 6 pillars; smoking, poor eating habits and lack of physical activity.

We need more advocacy and education in this area of medicine to prevent disease occurring. The remit is vast. Some pillars crossover e.g poor nutrition can lead to poor sleep, toxic substances in food can lead to poor mental health, poor sleep can lead to poor sleep, eating poorly resulting in obesity can lead to reduced physical activity and sedentary behaviour etc. Lets do this
