Testing

DR MILLI IS A HORMONE HEALTH EXPERT, HEALTH EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT ADVOCATE

Why testing?

After your initial consultation, if any further tests and investigations are needed, we will discuss this with you. It's not always necessary to have blood tests e.g to diagnose perimenopause. However, other conditions can mimic perimenopause and so blood testing may be needed e.g to check your thyroid health. You may have already had some blood testing at your GP surgery on the NHS – we ask you to share and provide these to us via the document upload section of your patient portal.

What is nutrigenomics
testing?

A holistic approach to health optimisation where we look at how your lifestyle and nutrition interact with your genes and what we can do in your lifestyle and food to optimise your DNA function. Only the genetic factors influencing your nutrition will undergo testing.

THESE TESTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON THE NHS

WHAT SORT OF ISSUES AND PROBLEMS CAN NUTRIGENOMICS BE GOOD FOR?

Healthy Ageing Assessment

Looking at different reports such as nutrient core report, methylation, metabolics, detoxification , APOE – we can gleam an in-depth insight into how we can optimise health and longevity.

Diet Assessment

Reports to determine how best to fuel and which diet/nutrition plan suits you and why; these can include metabolics, APOE, nutrient core report, methylation, hormones etc

Hormone Assessment

Some people say and feel that HRT is a panacea for all. But some women don’t feel 100% on it. Looking at DNA to see how we can optimise lifestyle and nutrition to support the HRT journey can be life altering for some women. Lack of hormones also affect how our metabolism works. Furthermore, many foundational steps important in hormone production and detoxification are affected by our DNA. Hormones can impact histamine too.

The situation can be complex, hence why we see so many women who don’t suit and respond to the ‘standard’ doses and HRT regimes offered by many. And despite the changes of route of delivery, they still don’t feel optimal. Understanding this and applying the principles of nutrition and lifestyle management with HRT can improve symptoms.

Reports that can be done as part of your hormone assessment include Hormones, detoxification, methylation, nutrient core, metabolics, nervous system, histamine report, APOE and thyroid (where relevant)

Nutrient core

Nutrient Core provides insights into how your genes interact with your diet and lifestyle, and suggests if you might need more detailed genetic testing for certain functions. It covers genes known to influence various aspects of your health and wellbeing, making it easier to understand how to take care of your body.

Metabolics

Metabolism is like the body's chemical engine, powering all its activities to keep you alive. It's divided into two parts: building things up (like sugars and proteins) and breaking things down (like releasing energy), which together keep your energy levels steady and your cells functioning properly. The Metabolics Report helps us learn how our genes shape this process, influencing how we use energy, how long we live healthily, and how our bodies stay in good shape.

Hormones report

The Hormones test examines genes linked to how your body manages corticosteroids and sex steroids, covering everything from production to how they're used. It helps figure out if your genes might be causing hormone problems and suggests ways to balance them better, like with certain nutrients and lifestyle changes.

Methylation

The Methylation test looks at genes involved in five different cycles that control how your body processes certain nutrients and chemicals. It helps figure out if your genes might make you less efficient or too efficient at using important vitamins and minerals, and suggests ways to support your body's needs to stay healthy.

Detoxification

Detoxification is like the body's clean-up crew, getting rid of harmful stuff to keep you healthy. The liver and other organs work together to change toxins into forms that can be easily flushed out. If detox doesn't work well, it can lead to a bunch of symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and skin issues. The Detoxification test checks out how your genes handle this process and suggests ways to support it with the right nutrition.

Oestrogen Balance

When estrogen levels get out of whack, it can lead to problems like fibroids, bad PMS, heavy periods, acne, and even breast cancer. The Oestrogen Balance test checks out how your genes handle estrogen, including how it's made, activated, and cleared from your body, and suggests ways to keep it in check, like with certain nutrients and lifestyle changes. If you think estrogen might be causing your issues, this test could help.

Histamine Intolerance

Histamine intolerance happens when your body struggles to break down histamine properly, leading to a buildup that can cause various symptoms like skin issues, breathing problems, and digestive troubles. The Histamine Intolerance test checks your genes and nutrient levels related to histamine breakdown, helping identify where things might be going wrong and how to support your body's natural processes.

Nervous System

Our genes and how we live can team up to influence how we feel mentally, like if we're anxious, sad, or can't concentrate. This test checks out the genes that affect our brain chemicals, brain health, how our bodies handle thyroid hormones, and inflammation, which all play a role in our mood, memory, and sleep.

APOE Plus

The APOE gene is known as a major factor linked to Alzheimer's disease risk. This test also looks at other genes connected to different types of Alzheimer's, helping tailor nutrition and lifestyle advice to lower the chance of developing the disease.

Thyroid Balance

Things like genes, what you eat, and stress can mess with how your thyroid works, leading to problems like feeling tired, gaining weight, or feeling anxious. The Thyroid Balance report looks at your genes to see how your thyroid hormones are made and used, and suggests ways to keep them in check with the right nutrition and lifestyle changes.
